Throughout the year, the TAP Board of Directors actively seeks to TAP Into the Community through school contests, participation in conferences and events, and affiliation with numerous organizations, including the Urban League, NAACP, Person-to-Person, YWCA, AAUW, GLSEN, NAME, International TESOL and state TESOL affiliates.

October 2000 Statewide launch of first annual TAP Essay Contest open to middle school and high school students in Connecticut. Contest winners were notified in December and awards were presented in various ceremonies during January and February 2001.
